Starling Martes Walk Off Single Ends Extra Inning Thriller

Starling Marte's Walk-Off Single Ends Extra-Inning Thriller

Mets Rally From 4-0 Deficit to Beat Phillies in 10 Innings

New York Avoids Sweep to Improve to 2-4 on Homestand

The New York Mets avoided a four-game sweep at the hands of the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday night, thanks to a walk-off single by Starling Marte in the 10th inning. The Mets rallied from a 4-0 deficit to win 5-4 in a thrilling extra-inning affair.

Marte's heroics came after the Phillies had taken a 4-3 lead in the top of the 10th inning on a sacrifice fly by Brandon Marsh. The Mets quickly answered back in the bottom of the inning, as Mark Canha led off with a single and Jeff McNeil followed with a double to put runners on second and third with no outs.

After a strikeout by Francisco Lindor, Marte stepped to the plate and ripped a line drive single into left field, scoring Canha and McNeil to give the Mets the walk-off victory. Edwin Díaz pitched a scoreless 10th inning to earn the win for the Mets.

The Mets' comeback victory was their second walk-off win of the season. They also rallied from a 4-0 deficit to beat the Washington Nationals on April 15.

With the win, the Mets improved to 2-4 on their current homestand. They will look to finish the homestand with a winning record when they host the Arizona Diamondbacks for a three-game series beginning on Wednesday.
