Spain reach Euro 2024 semi-finals with dramatic win over Germany
Mikel Merino scores late extra-time winner in Stuttgart
Spain kept themselves on course to win a fourth European Championship as Mikel Merinos 119th-minute goal sent them into the semi-finals of Euro 2024.
The match at the Stuttgart Arena was evenly poised throughout, with both sides having chances to win it in normal time. Spain took the lead through Alvaro Morata in the first half, but Germany equalised through Kai Havertz just after the hour mark.
The game went into extra time, and it was Merino who proved to be the hero for Spain. The Real Sociedad midfielder scored a stunning goal from outside the box to give his side the win.
Spain will now face either Italy or England in the semi-finals, while Germany will be left to rue what might have been.
