Early Life and Political Career

Joe Biden was born on November 20, 1942, in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He graduated from the University of Delaware and Syracuse University Law School. After serving on the New Castle County Council, Biden was elected to the United States Senate in 1972, where he served for 36 years.

Vice President Under Barack Obama

In 2008, Biden was elected Vice President of the United States under President Barack Obama. He served in this role for two terms, from 2009 to 2017. During his time as Vice President, Biden played a key role in shaping domestic and foreign policy, including the Affordable Care Act and the Iran nuclear deal.

Family Tragedy

Biden's life has been marked by both great achievements and profound loss. In 1972, his wife, Neilia, and their one-year-old daughter, Naomi, died in a car accident. Biden's two sons, Beau and Hunter, were seriously injured but survived. Beau Biden died of brain cancer in 2015.

Presidential Candidacy and Election

In 2019, Biden announced his candidacy for President of the United States. He was elected in 2020, becoming the oldest person to assume the office of President at age 78.
