Rising Star Andreeva Shocks World No. 2 Sabalenka in Roland Garros Quarters

Andreeva, 17, Pulls Off Biggest Win of Career to Reach Maiden Grand Slam Semi

Russian teenager Mirra Andreeva continued her stunning run at the 2023 Roland Garros, upsetting world No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka in the quarterfinals to reach her first Grand Slam semifinal. The 17-year-old Andreeva, who is playing in her first main draw at a major, played fearless tennis from start to finish, outlasting Sabalenka in three sets.

Andreeva broke Sabalenka's serve five times in the match, including twice in the third set, and displayed remarkable composure to withstand the Belarusian's powerful groundstrokes.

With her victory, Andreeva becomes the youngest player to reach the semifinals of a Grand Slam since Maria Sharapova in 2004. She will now face either unseeded Amanda Anisimova or former Roland Garros champion Barbora Krejcikova in the semifinals.
