Hampden Park in Glasgow, Scotland played host to an unforgettable night of football as Real Madrid emerged victorious in the UEFA Champions League final against Bayer Leverkusen. The match was a tale of two halves, with Leverkusen taking an early lead through Lucio before Real Madrid fought back to win 2-1, courtesy of goals from Zidane and Roberto Carlos.
Leverkusen started the match brightly and took the lead in the 13th minute when Lucio headed home a corner. The goal stunned Real Madrid but the Spanish giants responded well and began to dominate possession. They came close to equalizing on several occasions but were denied by some excellent saves from Leverkusen goalkeeper Hans-Jörg Butt.
Real Madrid's pressure eventually paid off in the 45th minute when Zidane equalized with a superb volley. The goal gave Real Madrid a boost and they started the second half strongly. They took the lead in the 56th minute when Roberto Carlos scored a stunning free-kick. Leverkusen pushed for an equalizer but Real Madrid held on to secure their ninth Champions League title.
