Manchester City's quest for a fifth Premier League title in six seasons suffered a major setback on Saturday as they were defeated 1-0 at home by Chelsea.
The Blues took the lead just before the hour mark through a penalty converted by Cole Palmer. Manchester City had chances to equalize, but they were unable to find the back of the net, leaving Chelsea to celebrate a vital victory in the title race.
The defeat leaves Manchester City four points behind Arsenal in the Premier League standings, with just eight games remaining. Chelsea, meanwhile, move up to second place, two points behind the Gunners.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was disappointed with his team's performance, particularly in the second half.
"We didn't play well enough in the second half," Guardiola said. "We were too slow and not aggressive enough. We made too many mistakes."
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel was delighted with his team's victory.
"It was a great performance from my team," Tuchel said. "We defended well and took our chances. We deserved to win."
The result leaves the Premier League title race wide open. Arsenal are still in the driver's seat, but Chelsea and Manchester City are both in contention.
